In recognition of the impact Justin Turner and his wife Kourtney have made in the local community, the Los Angeles City Council proclaimed Jan. 22, 2019, as Justin Turner Day in Los Angeles. Friday marks the two-year anniversary of the recognition.
Turner was honored last year during a special ceremony at City Hall, which was held during the annual Los Angeles Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour week. Turner then went to Dodger Stadium to help the team host their first-ever military enlistment day.
The on-field event was held for 39 first-time enlistments, three re-enlistments, and their family members. Turner greeted each participant and offered words of support and encouragement in a heartfelt speech.
Since the recognition from the city, the Turners and Justin Turner Foundation have continued with a tireless commitment of giving back and providing for those in need. They work hand-in-hand with the Dream Center, partnering on several events, including recently bringing a Christmas Dreamland to life.
The Justin Turner Foundation then hosted its first Winter Wonderland for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles patients and their families. Last March, CHLA added Kourtney, Justin and the Justin Turner Foundation to its prestigious Spotlight Wall in recognition of their regular visits and charitable efforts.
While Jan. 22 is recognized throughout Los Angeles as Justin Turner Day, the All-Star third baseman has credited Kourtney’s support and work every step of the way.
“We just want to go out and try to serve the community and impact as many lives as we can. Stepping back and getting an opportunity to reflect on some of that stuff and hear the nice things that the council members were saying, was pretty cool,” Turner said last January.
“Even more special for my wife. She doesn’t get a lot of credit for a lot of the things that we do. It was cool for her to get recognized by all the council members. It’s something she definitely deserves, because she’s a big part of everything.”
The couple is hosting the fifth annual Justin Turner Golf Classic on Monday. Proceeds will benefit children and families that have been affected by life altering illnesses, as well to assist veterans and families around the Los Angeles area.
Dodgers reportedly focused on re-signing Turner
The second anniversary of Justin Turner Day comes with him being a free agent. It’s the second time since first joining the Dodgers ahead of the 2014 season, and they reportedly have prioritized re-signing him.
