The Los Angeles Dodgers made multiple roster moves on Sunday, which included transferring Jimmie Sherfy to the 60-day injured list in order to add Yefry Ramirez to the 40-man roster as part of calling him up from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Sherfy had been on the 10-day IL since July 24 because of right elbow inflammation. The paper move suggests he might be dealing with a more serious issue that could eventually require surgery.

“At this point, I don’t know,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts answered when asked if the right-hander was due for an operation.

What is evident, however, is that Sherfy won’t pitch again this year. “You look at the days and timeline, so I think it takes him out of this season,” Roberts conceded.

Sherfy, originally selected in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, appeared in 10 games for the San Francisco Giants this season. He went 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.22 WHIP across 10.2 innings pitched prior to being designated for assignment.

The Dodgers claimed Sherfy off waivers but he went only went on to appear in four games. Sherfy made MLB history by becoming the first pitcher to appear in a game for both the Dodgers and Giants in a single season.

Dodgers start Betts at second base

Along with adding Ramirez to their active roster on Sunday, the Dodgers also reinstated Mookie Betts off the 10-day injured list. He started at second base because of the artificial surface at Chase Field.

“Swinging of the bat isn’t a problem, and I think even running the bases is fine,” Roberts said of Betts’ right hip inflammation. “It’s kind of the thing for us was the ground that he would have to cover in the outfield on turf.

“Going forward, obviously he’s our right fielder. But I think for this isolated day, there’s really not a whole lot of concern if he’s on the dirt and taking at-bats.”
