Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Raised Awareness With Skechers Friendship Walk In Honor Of Tommy Lasorda

The 14th annual Sketchers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk was held on Sunday, October 30, where thousands of people gathered to walk from Manhattan Beach Pier to Hermosa Beach Pier and back in support of children with disabilities.

The Friendship Foundation supports children, young adults and their families living with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing a safe, accepting, and inclusive environment where they can enjoy fun activities with their peers.

This year, nearly $3 million was raised, with proceeds going toward The Friendship Foundation’s ongoing programming for children with special needs, as well as select education foundations.

Late Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda was a big supporter of The Friendship Foundation, and to honor him, Clayton Kershaw raised awareness of the annual walk on Instagram.

In 2007, the Friendship Foundation began with eight children with disabilities and 22 teen volunteers meeting once per month on a Sunday afternoon in Manhattan Beach.

Today, over 40 Friendship School Clubs exist throughout the South Bay, in addition to several social and recreational programs that reach over 3,000 students annually.

The Friendship Foundation founder Yossi Mintz and Sketchers founder Michael Greenberg started the Pier to Pier Friendship Walk in 2009. Since then, the event has raised more than $14.5 million to support the Friendship Foundation and the six educational foundations in the district.

Dodgers re-sign Clayton Kershaw

Clayton Kershaw was among the Dodgers free agents this offseason but he reportedly agreed to re-sign with the team on a one-year contract. The value is believed to be similar to the $20 million Kershaw received for this past season.
