Dodgers Injury News: Cody Bellinger, Chris Taylor Day-To-Day

UPDATE (April 6, 4:30 p.m. PT): Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided injury updates on Cody Bellinger and Chris Taylor ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Oakland Athletics.

The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to four games but saw Chris Taylor and Cody Bellinger both exit due to injury before the final out was recorded against the Oakland Athletics.

Taylor was hit in the left elbow by a 96 mph pitch from A’s starter Frankie Montas, which caused him to crouch down while in pain. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer checked on Taylor, who initially remained in the game.

Taylor continued to run the bases but did not field his position when the bottom of the third inning began. The Dodgers later announced Taylor sustained a left elbow contusion.

“What I’ve heard is C.T. got an X-ray on the left elbow, and it was negative. Certainly some soreness and some swelling,” Roberts said after the win. “I just put him in the day-to-day category. … He’s as tough as they come.

“It was a contusion, ball hit him on the elbow, arm went numb and he wanted to hang in there, but it (feeling in arm) just didn’t come back. I wanted to get him out to get some treatment on it.”

Meanwhile, Bellinger suffered his injury with two outs in the ninth inning as he hustled to earn an infield single. A’s relief pitcher Reymin Guduan began to drift into Bellinger’s path as he raced to beat him to the bag and the two got tangled up.

“He got cleated in the middle part of his calf, but it’s just more sore, it’s not an ankle thing,” Roberts explained. “He made a comment that the ice he’s getting hurts worse than the cleat marks. He’s kind of with C.T., the day-to-day. We’ll know more [Tuesday] morning.”

Dodgers on injured list

When the Dodgers officially set their Opening Day roster, it was without Brusdar Graterol and Joe Kelly as both relief pitchers began the season on the 10-day injured list. A timetable has not been provided for either, but Roberts repeatedly has said Graterol is ahead of Kelly.

Then on Sunday, the team placed Tony Gonsolin on the 10-day IL due to right shoulder inflammation. Dennis Santana, who was part of the taxi squad, was recalled.
