Dodgers Highlights: Shohei Ohtani & Andy Pages Home Runs Against Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers snapped a three-game losing streak and avoided being swept by the New York Mets behind a much-needed 10-0 bounce-back effort. The shutout was the Dodgers’ first of the season.

With their win, the Dodgers prevented the Mets from completing their first three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium since Aug. 28-30, 1989.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes in the notion that momentum and setting the tone falls on the starting pitcher, and Tyler Glasnow did exactly that. Glasnow became the first Dodgers starter to pitch into the eighth inning since Clayton Kershaw on July 15, 2022, and collected 10 strikeouts and tied for the longest outing of his career.

He got through eight shutout innings to buy the Dodgers lineup time until they could explode against Adrian Houser.

Their scoring began with Shohei Ohtani’s two-run homer in the third inning to break up a scoreless tie. That gave Ohtani the MLB record for most home runs by a Japanese-born player, with his 176th passing Hideki Matsui.

The Dodgers then batted around and scored eight runs in the fifth inning to break the game open. Andy Pages’ double — the first extra-base hit of his career — was followed by a Gavin Lux walk and Mookie Betts RBI single.

Freddie Freeman’s second double of the game brought in a pair of runs and Will Smith hit a two-run double as well. Smith’s contributions also included throwing out two would-be base stealers.

Pages capped off the Dodgers’ big inning with the first home run of his career.

Dodgers road trip

Next for the Dodgers is a nine-game road that begins Tuesday with a matchup against the Washington Nationals, who just won of three at Dodger Stadium.

Also on the docket are series with the Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers will see Justin Turner with his second new team since not being re-signed after the 2022 season, and return to Chase Field for the first time since being swept in last year’s National League Division Series.
