Dodgers Highlights: Gavin Stone’s Strikeouts, Teoscar Hernández & Max Muncy Home Runs Against Cardinals

The Los Angeles Dodgers were trudging toward a second consecutive loss and series split with the St. Louis Cardinals when Teoscar Hernández provided some late-game thunder and Max Muncy capped off the comeback in a 5-4 victory.

Gavin Stone’s 2024 debut got off to a strong start as he struck out the side in the first inning. He ran into some trouble in the third inning when an infield single and base hit put two on with nobody out.

Paul Goldschmidt’s RBI single gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead, but Stone managed to limit the damage to just the one run. He gave up another run in the fifth and pitched into the sixth inning before giving way to Alex Vesia after issuing a leadoff walk.

Vesia walked the bases loaded and hit a batter, to bring a run in, and another scored on catcher’s interference by Austin Barnes.

Trailing 4-0, the Dodgers began to cut into their deficit in the bottom of the sixth as Shohei Ohtani’s leadoff double helped spark a rally. Hernández’s RBI double got the Dodgers on the board and James Outman cut the Cardinals’ lead in half by tapping into an out with the bases loaded.

Hernández then hit his third homer in the past three games, and Muncy completed the rally with a two-run blast to give the Dodgers a decided lead.

Nabil Crismatt impresses in Dodgers debut

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Dodgers selected the contract of Nabil Crismatt and optioned Kyle Hurt.

Crismatt made his Dodgers debut after Vesia, contributing two scoreless innings to help keep the team within distance for a comeback win.

Daniel Hudson took over in the ninth for his first save of the season.
