Dodgers Highlights: Corey Seager, Trea Turner Reach 100 Career Home Runs

Corey Seager and Trea Turner both reached 100 career home runs to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the rubber match of their series at Chase Field. With the victory L.A. finished 6-3 on their road trip and won all three series.

They were coming off a bit of a flat performance and loss, which Clayton Kershaw and Turner emphasized needing to quickly move on from as the team remained alive in the National League West race.

Seager helped them do exactly that by lifting a home run to the opposite field in the first inning. Turner also didn’t waste any time as he ambushed the first pitch from Humberto Mejía for a line-drive homer.

Turner’s solo blast gave him three in as many plate appearances, and 100 for his career. He was later joined in that group when Seager went to right field for his second holo home run of the game.

Seager’s 464-foot blast extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-0 and marked the longest home run of his career. Seager and Turner became the first teammates to hit their 100th career home run in the same game since Jay Gibbons and Melvin Mora on Sept. 27, 2005.

Julio Urias’ fastball velocity was down for a third consecutive start but he successfully pitched around traffic to complete five scoreless innings. He earned an MLB-best 19th win and remains within reach of getting 20, which Urias said would be a “dream come true.”

Other than a double to Daulton Varsho in the first inning, Urias didn’t not allow hard much hard contact. Th Diamondbacks’ biggest threat came when an infield single, high chopper that went over Max Muncy’s head and a fielder’s choice loaded the bases with one out in third.

Urias wiggled out of the jam by inducing a fly ball and getting David Peralta swinging. He then stranded a one-out single in the fourth before retiring the side in order in the fifth inning for the first and only time of the day.

Justin Bruihl, Joe Kelly, Corey Knebel and Kenley Jansen each threw a scoreless inning.

Dodgers reach 100

The Dodgers now have 100 wins in a season for the ninth time in franchise history (including 1899 as Brooklyn Superbas), and a third time in the past five years.
