Corey Seager, Justin Turner & More Dodgers Celebrate Tommy Lasorda

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a celebratory first home series of the season, beginning with a World Series ring ceremony last Friday and followed by tributes for Tommy Lasorda and Fernando Valenzuela, respectively, over the next two days.

The Lasorda celebration featured a video of Dodgers manager Dave Roberts along with Clayton Kershaw, Corey Seager and Justin Turner, among others, sharing their memorable interactions with the Hall of Famer.

Turner again shared his first encounter with Lasorda at Camelback Ranch during 2014 Spring Training. It entailed Lasorda putting Turner in a chokehold while he sat in a therapy pool, and a good laugh after.

Max Muncy also was in the tribute video shown prior to first pitch, and he additionally celebrated Lasorda’s memory by wearing custom cleats for the Dodgers’ ring ceremony and home opener.

The Dodgers also opened the vault to share a look at a video of Lasorda doing a cover of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” His performance had previously only been seen by a small group, most of whom were at Camelback Ranch for the impromptu karaoke session.

“I don’t know if it was more meaningful as far as the ballgame, but I do know that what they did beforehand with Tommy singing and some video, just kind of continues to bring him to life,” Roberts said after the Dodgers’ win.

“I think to always remember him and the good times is always a good thing. I think right now with the ring ceremony and sort of dedicating tonight’s game to Tommy, I thought was special.”

Prior to holding the tribute ceremony, the Dodgers had already kept Lasorda’s memory with them by way of a jersey patch. There also is a display of Lasorda artifacts under the pavilion in center field as part of the new renovation.
