The Los Angeles Dodgers went into the offseason facing the possibility of losing several key contributors in free agency. That proved true for Corey Seager, who signed a 10-year, $325 million contract with the Texas Rangers.

Seager’s departure left a void at shortstop for the Dodgers, who can simply fill it by moving Trea Turner back to his original position.

While that remains the most likely outcome, an earlier report suggested L.A. would look into the possibility of signing Carlos Correa as a replacement for Seager.

According to Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston, the Dodgers are among the teams who have reached out to Correa’s representation since the start of free agency:

Correa is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in which he hit .279/.366/.485 with 34 doubles, 26 home runs and 92 RBI over 640 plate appearances (148 games).

The 27-year-old is expected to receive a contract in the same ballpark as Seager, and the signing team would be required to give up draft compensation to the Houston Astros since he rejected the $18.4 million qualifying offer for the 2022 season.

With team owners imposing the long-anticipated MLB lockout on Wednesday night, any potential deal will have to wait until a new collective bargaining agreement is in place.

While there’s no denying Correa’s talent, his potential fit in the Dodgers clubhouse would be curious at best. It was only a year ago in which he and Joe Kelly exchanged words, leading to both benches clearing at Minute Maid Park.

Before that, the star shortstop criticized Cody Bellinger for questioning the authenticity of Jose Altuve’s 2017 American League MVP Award.

Some with Dodgers open to Correa

Despite the history between the Dodgers and Correa, some within the organization reportedly are open to the idea of signing him. However, it’s unclear if that sentiment extends to the clubhouse, which is most important considering Dodgers players have been vocal about their frustration with the Astros.
